Intrathecal “Pain” Pump
Implantation & Management
The intrathecal or “pain” pump is an implantable device that delivers medication targeted directly onto the spinal cord. In this way, we achieve relief with smaller medication doses and fewer side effects. Appropriate candidates will have a trial before implantation. Conditions that could benefit include:
- Failed back surgery pain
- Pain vertebral compression fractures
- Cancer pain
- Nerve injury pain
- Arachnoiditis or inflammation of the meninges of the spinal nerves
- Chronic pancreatitis
Spinal Cord Stimulation
Chronic pain conditions are often managed through the use of spinal cord stimulation. In many cases, patients can reduce or eliminate their opioid medications. Spinal cord stimulation specifically targets the nerves that cause pain. By delivering specific patterns of electricity onto the spinal cord, pain can be reduced or even eliminated. Appropriate candidates will have a trial before implantation. Conditions that could benefit include:
- Nerve damage or neuropathy
- Complex regional pain syndrome
- Failed back surgery pain
- Arachnoiditis
- Chronic leg or arm pain
- Diabetic neuropathy
Doral Root Ganglion Stimulaton
Chronic pain conditions are often managed through the use of spinal cord stimulation. In many cases, patients can reduce or eliminate their opioid medications. Spinal cord stimulation specifically targets the nerves that cause pain. By delivering specific patterns of electricity onto the spinal cord, pain can be reduced or even eliminated. Appropriate candidates will have a trial before implantation. Conditions that could benefit include:
- Lumbar radiculopathy
- Complex regional pain syndrome
- Ilioinguinal/post hernia nerve pain
- Knee pain
- Neuropathic foot pain
- Diabetic neuropathy
Vertebral Augmentation or Kyphoplasty
Painful vertebral compression fractures or sacral insufficiency fractures occur commonly due to osteoporosis, after a fall or due to malignancy. By placing “bone cement” into these fractures, the pain relief can be immediate and profound. Conditions that could benefit include:
- Painful compression fractures
- Sacral insufficiency fractures
Vertiflex®
Spinal stenosis is a common cause of low back pain, which occurs as a result of arthritis, degenerative disc and joint disease. Used to treat pain due to the disease, Vertiflex® is an indirect decompression device, relieving pressure on nerves in the spine. There are approximately 400 physicians trained in the U.S. for this procedure, contact Envision Pain Management to schedule your consult with one today. This procedure is also minimally invasive and performed as an outpatient procedure.
